Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts and Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center have created an innovative partnership designed to stimulate the interest of high school students in careers in health care. With the support of Highmark BlueShield, Surgery Live! at Whitaker Center connects students to the operating rooms of Hershey Medical Center through interactive high-definition videoconferencing technology.
Students see and hear the surgical teams in real time and are able to ask questions during surgical procedures. A facilitator guides the students' discussion with operating room staff, demonstrate surgical instruments used in the operation, and explain factors that cause disease and contribute to conditions that place patients on the operating table.
NEW for '18 - '19 - Surgery Live! will take place in Select Medical Digital Cinema. We're increasing the capacity and the size of the screen...to 4 stories!
Capacity: 200 people.
