Camp FAQs

Know Before You Go

 Chaos Theory has its place in science, but not in the way we run our STEM camps. Please review the information below regarding policies and procedures for our summer camp programs.

Which grade do I register for? Please register your child for the grade they will be ENTERING in the Fall of 2022. 

What is provided:  Campers will also be provided with a morning and afternoon snack and all materials needed to complete the activities during camp.  Refillable water bottles will be provided for each camper.  Please do not bring along water bottles. 

What to bring: Bagged lunch (only if you are a full-day camper). Refrigeration will not be available.   

What to wear: Comfortable clothes and closed toe shoes. No flip flops please. Please also plan for some exciting (and sometimes messy!) activities.  

Drop-off and Pick-up Times for Grade 2-3, 4-6, and Musical Theater Camps

Morning Session Drop-off time: 8:30am-9:00am

Afternoon Pick-up time: 4:00pm-4:30pm

Drop-off and Pick-up Times for Grade K-1 Camps

Summer camps for this age group are available for morning session only or full-day.  If campers are staying for the morning only, they will miss some of the activities but will still receive plenty of content and activities. 

 Drop-off time: 8:30am-9:00am

AM ONLY CAMPER Pick-up time: 11:45am-12:15pm

FULL DAY CAMPER Pick-up time: 4:00pm-4:30pm

* Please note: If you sign up your camper for a full day experience, you will drop off from 8:30am-9:00am and pick up from 4:00pm-4:30pm. You do not need to pick up in the middle of the day. A chaperoned lunch period will be provided (campers bring their own lunch).  If you are only here for half a day, a lunch period will not be provided for your camper.   

Drop-off Procedures

To ensure a quick and efficient drop-off, the following procedure will be used:

  • For drop-off, we will use the entrance on 3rd Street.
  • This door is directly across from Pedego Electric Bikes Harrisburg. You can use the following address to lead you right to the doors: 17 N 3rd St Harrisburg, PA 17101.  
  • Please look for the large, white sandwich boards that say “WHITAKER CENTER DROP OFF ZONE” on your right.  
  • You will not need to pay for parking. Please pull up to the curb and turn your 4-way lights on.
  • A Whitaker Center staff member will approach your car on the passenger side.  The staff member will be wearing their Whitaker Center nametag. Please do not allow anyone out of your vehicle at this time.
  • Please roll down your window and let the staff member know the name of the child/children you are dropping off.  
  • You will be required to give the first and last name of the individual picking the child up at the end of the day.  The staff member will make note of this individual on the roster.  This individual will need to show ID at pickup.  
  • When instructed to do so, the child/children will need to exit the passenger side of the car, directly onto the sidewalk.  Don’t forget the lunch in the car!
  • Please note: If you need to help your child with their seatbelt or harness system, you may exit the vehicle but we ask that you do this quickly and safely with passing traffic on 3rd St. 
  • The child/ children will walk directly into the 3rd Street Lobby to meet another staff member and be escorted downstairs to their classroom so the fun can begin!

Cancellation Policy

In order to accommodate every child who wants to attend our camps, we require at least 4 weeks notice for cancellations and full refunds. Cancellations made with less than 4 weeks notice will not receive a refund. 

Late Pick-Up Policy

Pick-up times for camps are strictly enforced. Please note that there will be a charge of $15 per fifteen minutes past the pick-up time for your child’s camp.  You will agree to this policy upon completion of registration.

Camp Scholarship Funds (Grades K – 6)

We are proud to offer scholarship funds to qualifying families for our Discovery Camps, which services children in grades Kindergarten through six. Children of parents who currently qualify for the Pennsylvania ACCESS/EBT Card are eligible. Scholarship funds cover the majority of the cost for camps. Families are responsible for a small portion of the remaining cost, payable at the time of registration.

In order to serve as many families as possible, scholarship funds cannot be used by the same child for more than one week of STEM Camps. This can mean either one week of full day camp (for Grade 2-3 and 4-6 campers) or two weeks of half day camps (for K-1 campers only). 

Please click the button below to submit your request for scholarship funding.  This form will require you to submit your images of your driver's licence and ACCESS card.  You will then be contacted by a member of the Education Team to process your payment.
