Know Before You Go

Chaos Theory has its place in science, but not in the way we run our STEM camps. Please review the information below regarding policies and procedures for our summer camp programs.

Which grade do I register for?
Please register your child for the grade they will be ENTERING in the Fall of 2020. 


Discovery Camp Drop-off and Pick-up Times for Grade 2-3, 4-6, 7-9, and Musical Theater Camps
Morning Session Drop-off time: 8:30 a.m.-9:00 a.m.
Afternoon Pick-up time: 4:00 p.m.-4:30 p.m.

Drop-off and Pick-up Times for Grade K-1 Camps
Summer camps for this age group are available for the morning sessions only, afternoon session only, or full-day.  The topics and descriptions look similar but the curriculum has been written so the morning and afternoon sessions can stand-alone and those attending for the full-day will not have repeat content!

Morning Session Drop-off time: 8:30 a.m.-9:00 a.m.
Morning Session Pick-up time: 11:45 a.m.-12:15 p.m.

Afternoon Session Drop-off time: 12:45 p.m.-1:15 p.m.
Afternoon Pick-up time: 4:00 p.m.-4:30 p.m.

Please note: If you sign up your camper for a full day experience, you will drop off from 8:30 a.m.-9:00 a.m. and pick up from 4:00 p.m.-4:30 p.m. You do not need to pick up in the middle of the day. A chaperoned lunch period will be provided (campers bring their own lunch).  If you are only here for half a day, a lunch period will not be provided for your camper.   

Drop-off and Pick-up zone: 3rd Street Entrance

Please note:  

  1. This door is straight across from Provisions Grocery Store. You can use the following address to lead you right to the doors: 17 N 3rd St Harrisburg, PA 17101.  
  2. Please look for the large, white sandwich boards for our loading zone.
  3. You will not need to pay for parking. Please pull up to the curb, turn your 4-way lights on, and place the parking notice (will be included in pre-camp materials) on your dashboard.  
  4. You will need to WALK YOUR CHILD INTO THE LOBBY FOR EACH DROP OFF AND PICK UP.  
  5. We will have a registration desk inside the door to sign your child in and out at drop off and at pick up.
  6. Once this is done, your child will be taken downstairs so the fun can begin!

What is provided:  Each camper will get a reusable Whitaker Center water bottle to use at camp.  We will have large jugs of icy cold water to fill the bottles often. They will also be provided with a morning and afternoon snack.  

What to bring: Bagged lunch (only if you are a full-day camper). Refrigeration will not be available.

What to wear: Comfortable clothes and closed-toe shoes. No flip flops, please. Please also plan for some exciting (and sometimes messy!) activities.   

Discovery Camp Scholarship Funds (Grades K – 6)

We are proud to offer scholarship funds to qualifying families for our Discovery Camps, which services children in grades K through six. Children of parents who currently qualify for the Pennsylvania ACCESS/EBT Card are eligible. Scholarship funds cover the majority of the cost for camps. Families are responsible for a small portion of the remaining cost, payable at the time of registration.

In order to serve as many families as possible, scholarship funds cannot be used by the same child for more than one week of Discovery Camps. This can mean either one week of full-day camp (for Grade 2-3 and 4-6 campers) or two weeks of half-day camps (for K-1 campers only). Scholarship funds are not currently available for our Two-Day Mini Camps.

Please click the link below to submit your request for scholarship funding.  This form will require you to submit your images of your driver's license and ACCESS card.  You will then be contacted by a member of the Education Team to process your payment.

Cancellation Policy
We require a request for a refund to be emailed to education@whitakercenter.org on or before the Wednesday prior to the start of your designated camp.  Example:  If your camp begins on Monday, January 20, 2020, your request needs to be received by Wednesday, January 15, 2020.  

Late Pick-Up Policy
Pick-up times for camps are strictly enforced. Please note that there will be a charge of $15 per fifteen minutes past the pick-up time for your child’s camp. You will agree to this policy upon completion of registration.
