September 28 - December 31, 2023
Developed in partnership with the International Space Station Office of NASA's Johnson Space Center, the California Science Center and the partner museums of the Science Museum Exhibit Collaborative, this 10,000-square-foot Space exhibition invites visitors to experience traveling to, living and working in space. Visitors are immersed in the challenges that astronauts—and the engineers and scientists that make their journeys possible—face. Space features interactive exhibits, whole body experiences and authentic artifacts that engage visitors with the unparalleled adventure of space exploration.
Using hands-on and large-scale interactive exhibits and multimedia components, Space: An Out-of-Gravity Experience explores the solutions that will shape our future in space. This touring exhibition gives you a glimpse of the challenges and triumphs of space journeys, and the extraordinary conditions of human space travel.
Witness the innovation that makes life possible in the unforgiving vacuum of space. Explore conditions that make space travel dangerous. Experience what it’s like to be on board the International Space Station. Try out some of the engineering technology that makes life and research possible in space. Answer some of your burning questions about space exploration: How do astronauts sleep in a weightless environment? How do they eat? And how do they go to the bathroom?
Unlike many traditional space exhibitions that focus on the history of space travel, Space: An Out-of-Gravity Experience looks into current and future exploration. Discover what is possible, and what awaits in orbit and beyond.
In addition to our new traveling exhibit, Whitaker Centeris offering space-themed hands-on activities in the STEM Design Labs and PNC Innovation Zone during regular operating hours.
