Scout Sundays at Whitaker

We offer Scout Workshops for Daisies, Brownies, Juniors, Cadettes, AND CUBS!  There are a variety of workshops, from robotics to painting. Scouts can register with their troop or as individuals. 

Calling all Daisies, Brownies, Juniors, Cadettes, and Cubs! Whitaker Center offers exciting, hands-on Scout Workshops designed to help participants earn badges while exploring science, technology, engineering, and more. From robotics and coding to engineering challenges and design thinking, each workshop is tailored to meet badge requirements in a fun and interactive way. Scouts can register with their troop or as individuals, and every participant will leave with their earned badge(s) to proudly add to their vest or sash.

Dates and Times

Scout Workshops run October to May, on the first and second Sundays of the month, in STEM Lab A. Scout Workshop times will vary!

Registration

Tickets are $18 per scout for workshops earning one badge and $35 per scout for workshops earning three badges. Workshops are not refundable.  
Each troop represented should have at least one adult accompanying their scout(s). There is no charge for the adult assisting the troop.

Plan Ahead & Secure Your Spot! We’re thrilled to offer engaging programs at the Science Center — and we want to make sure you don’t miss out! To help us prepare and ensure the best experience for everyone, we kindly ask that tickets be purchased in advance.
Please Note: Programs require a minimum number of participants. If minimum enrollment is not met, we will notify participants two days before the scheduled date that the program is canceled. Early registration helps us keep these opportunities available! Consider adding a ticket for a friend or sibling!

Please Note: Science Center exploration before your workshop is NOT included in the price of your workshop.  You can purchase a discounted Science Center and/or Digital Cinema ticket(s) for the day of the workshop at our box office when you arrive.
Scouts may purchase a discounted ticket to the UPMC Science Center or the Select Digital Cinema for the day of their workshop. 
Discounted tickets for UPMC Science Center are $10.
Discounted tickets for Select Medical Digital Cinema are $6.

Cub Scouts Super Science Adventure
Feb. 15,  2026 | 1-3PM 

“Have you ever wondered why the sky is blue or how gravity works or what makes a rainbow? Scientists wonder about those things, too.  Join us in the lab to learn about how scientists make observations and conduct experiments. Bear Cub Scouts will complete the Super Science Adventure, and all Cub Scouts are welcome to attend. 

Senior/Ambassador Robotics*
March 15, 2026 | 10AM-2:30PM

Brownie Home Scientist
March 22, 2026 | 1-3PM

By paying careful attention during experiments, scientists learn new things- even if they’ve done the test before. That means you don’t have to grow up to be a scientist. You’re a scientist every time you do an experiment! In this badge, find out where science has been hiding in your own home. Brownies will earn the Home Scientist badge.

Junior/Cadette Fun with Forensics
April 12, 2026 | 1-3:30PM

Use your investigative mind to take on the many roles of a special agent: detective, scientist, psychologist, enforcer of the law. When you’ve earned this badge, you’ll know how to follow clues and discover facts like a real detective. You’ll know secrets from the worlds of forensic science and criminal psychology. Juniors will earn the Detective Badge, and Cadettes will earn the Special Agent badge.  

Junior Mechanical Engineering: Balloon Car Challenge
April 19, 2026 | 1-3PM

Every action has an equal and opposite reaction is one of Newton’s Laws. In this workshop, scouts will learn about this principle, as well as learn about the engineering behind cars. By the end of this program, scouts will earn the Mechanical Engineering: Balloon Car Badge.

Daisy/Brownie Coding Basics
May 10, 2026 | 1-3PM

Find out how computer scientists write programs for computers to solve problems. When you’ve earned this badge, you’ll know how programmers write programs that make computers work and how people can use computers to help others.  Daisies and Brownies will each earn the Coding for Good: Coding Basics badge.

Daisy Mechanical Engineering: Roller Coaster Design
May 17, 2026 | 1-2:20PM

Weeeee! Roller Coasters are a favorite of most at amusement parks. They are also a great feat of engineering. In this workshop, scouts will put their engineering skills to the challenge of building their very own roller coaster. At the end of this program, scouts will earn the Mechanical Engineering: Roller Coaster Badge.
