Girl Scout Badge Workshops

Join our Education Staff as they assist your troop in fulfilling

all requirements for official Girl Scout Badges!

Whitaker Center's Girl Scout workshops are always a favorite.  We offer workshops for Daisies, Brownies, Juniors, Cadettes, Seniors,  AND AMBASSADORS!  There are a variety of workshops from Digital Movie Making to Mechanical Engineering.  Scouts can register with their troop or as individuals.  Adults and leaders will need to accompany their Girl Scouts to the workshop and remain within the required ratios.  Each scout will take home the earned badge(s) at the end of the workshop to add to their vest or sash! Questions regarding workshops can be sent to education@whitakercenter.org.  We look forward to seeing you soon! 

Please note, for badge workshops held at Whitaker Center - science center exploration before or after your workshop is NOT included in the price of your workshop.  Science center tickets can be purchased at the Box Office the day of your workshop if the science center is open to the public.  

Whitaker Center follows CDC guidelines and recommendations.  At this time, masks are optional. 

Daisies

Mechanical Engineering: Model Car

October 2 | 9-10:30 am  

 “Are we there yet?” Cars help us get places and are a great feat of engineering. Each design is equipped for different challenges. Some are fast, some are durable. In this workshop, scouts will get the opportunity to put their minds to the engineering challenge of building a model car. By the end of this program, scouts will earn the Mechanical Engineering: Model Car Badge. 

 

Mechanical Engineering: Roller Coaster

 October 16 |  1-2:30 pm 

Weeeee! Roller Coasters are a favorite of most at amusement parks. They are also a great feat of engineering. In this workshop, scouts will put their engineering skills to the challenge of building their very own roller coaster. At the end of this program, scouts will earn the Mechanical Engineering: Roller Coaster Badge. 

 

Board Game Challenge

November 12 |  9-10:30 am 

Collect $200! In this program, scouts will apply their engineering and creativity skills to design and create their very own board game. Problem solving skills and imagination will be used to solve problems that arise as games are developed. By the end of this program, scouts will earn the Mechanical Engineering: Board Game Design Challenge Badge.

 

Brownies

Senses  

October 9 | 9-10:30 am

December 4 | 9-10:30 am

I spy with my little eye: the five senses of sight, sound, smell, touch, and taste are integral to how we explore and understand the world. In this workshop, the scouts will explore and learn more about these senses and how they help us navigate the world around us. By the end of this program, scouts will earn the Senses Badge. 

 

Mechanical Engineering: Racecar  

October 23 | 1-2:30 pm

November 5 | 1-2:30 pm

Vroom! Start your engines. In this workshop, scouts will learn about the engineering behind race cars, get the chance to build their own, and run tests to see how fast they can get their cars to go. By the end of this program, scouts will earn the Mechanical Engineering: Race Car Badge. 

Juniors

Mechanical Engineering: Crane

October 2 | 1-3 pm

Construction up ahead! Cranes are often something we think of as a building tool, but the engineering of cranes can actually be very complex. In this workshop, scouts will put their minds to the challenge of building a working crane and by the end of the program, scouts will earn the Mechanical Engineering: Crane Badge. 

Mechanical Engineering: Balloon Car

October 16 | 9-11 am

December 4 | 1-3 pm

Every action has an equal and opposite reaction is one of Newton’s Laws. In this workshop, scouts will learn about this principle, as well as learn about the engineering behind cars. By the end of this program, scouts will earn the Mechanical Engineering: Balloon Car Badge. 

Mechanical Engineering: Paddle Boat Challenge

November 5 | 9-11 am

Canoes, kayaks, steam ships, cruise liners, jet skis. There are so many different ways to get around on water. This workshop will explore how boats work. Scouts will work to make a model paddle boat that can sail across water. By the end of this program, scouts will earn the Mechanical Engineering: Paddle Boat Design Challenge Badge.

Cadettes

Think Like an Engineer

October 9 | 1-3 pm

Engineers help the world as we know it to function. They design all sorts of things to help make life easier. Planes, trains, prosthetics, and even cell phones, were first designed by engineers. In this workshop, scouts will try several challenges that encourage them to put their engineering skills to test. By the end of this program, scouts will earn the Think Like an Engineer Badge. 

Digital Movie Maker

October 23 | 9-11 am

November 12 | 1-3 pm

Action! Movies are a favorite pastime of many. This visual method of storytelling has brought people together and allowed people new experiences. In this workshop, scouts will learn about the basics of movie making and work to make their very own short film. By the end of this program, scouts will earn the Digital Movie Maker Badge. 

Senior

Sky

October 30 | 9-11 am

December 11 | 1-3 pm

“The sky is the soul of all scenery.”- Thomas Cole. In this workshop, scouts will learn about the sky and our relationship with it. Both the science of the sky and the stories that originate from the sky will be focused on. By the end of this program, scouts will earn the Sky Badge. 

Ambassador

Water

October 30 | 1-3 pm

December 11 | 9-11 am

Splash! Water is crucial to our survival. For such an important resource, we often take it for granted. This workshop will explore the beauty of water and educate on ways to protect this valuable resource. By the end of this program, scouts will earn the the Water Badge.
