With more than four million albums sold to date and nearly a dozen No. 1 and Top 10 hits to her credit, Terri Clark has emerged as a singular voice on the Country music scene. Her passion, drive and guitar talents continue to garner much success and critical acclaim across the country.
At eighteen, Clark was ready to relocate from her native Quebec, Canada to Nashville in order to pursue the country music industry. Discovered by Keith Stegall, an executive producer at PolyGram/Mercury Records in Nashville, Clark was signed to a record deal in 1994 and released her self-titled debut the following year. Sixteen years later, her self-discovery and independence led her to the raw and organic production of 2009’s The Long Way Home.
Clark explains, “I’ve been all the way around the world since I came to Nashville when I was eighteen. And I feel like I’ve sort of come full circle ─ so, figuratively, The Long Way Home represents that to me. But it also represents that journey within me ─ a lot of the self-realizations and things that have become non-negotiable within myself within the last couple of years.”
On The Long Way Home, Clark assumes true ownership of her music, reflecting the tides of adult lives, great passions, and the struggles that mark her journey. Tracks including Gypsy Boots and A Million Ways To Run, prove that it was absolutely worth the journey for Clark.
Since leaving major labels behind and taking the indie route, Clark appreciates the ability to finally fully stretch her creative wings. According to Clark, “It’s still a long journey and I’m still learning every single day working on myself. It’s been an eye-opening last couple years. Home is really inside your self. You just have to find your own way there. That’s the best thing. And it’s all reflective in my music as well.”
