Combining blues and hip-hop into what he termed "ragmop,” G. Love (born Garrett Dutton), rose from the streets of Philadelphia and into the American music scene in the early ‘90s. At the beginning of his career, Love fused his vocal and guitar talents with his band Special Sauce, featuring acoustic bass player Jim "Jimi Jazz" Prescott and drummer Jeffrey Clemens.
The band’s signature laid back alternative blues/hip-hop infused sound was first heard on their self-titled 1994 debut. The album received enthusiastic reviews, and nearly went gold on the strength of the MTV-spun video for the noteworthy hit Cold Beverage. Throughout the mid ‘90s, the trio toured heavily, landed a subsequent spot on the H.O.R.D.E. tour, and found a receptive young fan base. In 1999, Special Sauce embarked on a world tour following the release of successful albums. Long Way Down (2009) is the latest release by G. Love with Special Sauce.
Aside from performing as a trio with Special Sauce, G. Love is also is a multi-talented producer and solo artist, and has collaborated on projects with fellow musician Jack Johnson. Oh Yeah is Love’s latest solo work.
Presented by Point Entertainment and Greenbelt Events in association with Whitaker Center.
