Lamppost Kites

Lamppost kites, designed and decorated by local artists, are composed of Tyvek®.

Designs will be placed by artists onto pre-fabricated kite frames. These kites will be displayed on lampposts throughout Harrisburg and surrounding communities.

Kites must be decorated using durable, appropriate painting techniques. Whitaker Center suggests using acrylic paint prepared according to the following instructions:

Supplies
Plastic cups
Acrylic paints
½ tsp. liquid dish soap
1 cup warm water
eye-dropper

Mix ½ teaspoon liquid soap with 1 cup warm water. Fill plastic cup with about one inch of acrylic paint. Add 5-15 drops of liquid soap/water solution to paint. Mix well.

Tips
::Test on scrap Tyvek® before using on final piece.
::Start with lightest colors first, then progress to darker, more saturated colors.
::Keep paint layers thin.
::Before painting kite, clean surface with rubbing alcohol.
