HARRISBURG, PA (March 1, 2006)—Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts will officially launch the summer-long extravaganza, KiteFest™ presented by Capital BlueCross at the kick off event StringFling™. On Saturday, April 15th from 11am – 3pm the special kite-flying festival will take place at the flattop area of Reservoir Park in Harrisburg.

Supported by the American Kitefliers Association, StringFling will include professional kite flying and kite fighting demonstrations, aerial competitions, ongoing kite building workshops for children, a family kite fly, and food and music for the entire community. The opening kite making activity will invite children of all ages to create and demonstrate their own kites with assistance from volunteers. Special kite competitions and demonstrations will take place throughout the event. Based on experience, categorized kite flying competitions will be offered and judged throughout the day. Both individual and team kite fliers will have the chance to participate in a 2-5 minute Sport Kite Demonstration. The Family Fly will encourage and challenge families to test their skills and fly their kites.
